The first early preview of Adobe Edge was just released about a week ago. It is early in the developmental process of Edge. There are a lot of expectations of this new program. Many of us are exited that there will finally be a professional HTML5 replacement of Adobe Flash for creating web animation.

Just as Adobe Edge is in it’s early stages, so is this web site; Learn Adobe Edge Online. We will slowly be adding lots of useful content as Adobe’s developmental process advances with Edge.

First of all we will keep you updated with any new announcements or advances concerning Adobe Edge. So if you want to keep up with Adobe Edge, we recommend you bookmark this site and come back regularly.

Second, and most importantly, we will be posting regular lessons and tutorials. This is, after all, a website about learning. We will begin slowly adding new lessons monthly and then increasing the frequency as Adobe Edge starts taking shape and is molded into what it will eventually become. By the time Adobe Edge is finally released sometime in 2012 you will be an expert in this software. In my opinion there is no other software better to be an expert in than Adobe Edge, because it will be a fundamental part of the future of web development.

Some of our tutorials and lessons will be article based and others will be video tutorials or a mixture of both because I know that everyone learns differently. Our article based Adobe Edge tutorials will be step by step guides on how to do certain animations and other neat effects on Edge. We will also provide many ideas on how to spruce up your websites as you design them.

Not only will this site, Learn Adobe Edge Online, be a place to learn, but also a place where you will be able to share what you have created. This sharing will help everyone learn and add ideas to their arsenal. We will be adding a community forum about Adobe Edge soon. Here everyone will be able to ask, respond to, and share anything and everything about Adobe Edge.

We look forward to seeing you back here again and participating in our new web site. If you have any ideas for this site, please leave a comment below.

Adobe Edge Set to Launch 2012

Adobe Edge is set to launch in 2012.  Adobe Edge is Adobe’s new program to create animated web content using HTML5, CSS3 andAdobe Edge Logo JavaScript.  It will be a powerful professional program that will eventually replace Adobe Flash for web animation.

Why is the year 2012 launch of Adobe Edge so meaningful?  Well notice how Adobe begins describing Edge:

Adobe® Edge is a new web motion and interaction design tool that allows designers to bring animated content to websites, using web standards like HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3.

Notice that Adobe mentions the HTML5 standard.  Did you know that even though we’ve been hearing about the HTML5 standard for years, it is not yet complete?  Yes.  You heard me right.  The HTML5 standard is set to be completed in 2012.  This is why Adobe Edge being released in 2012 makes so much sense.  Adobe wants Adobe Edge to implement all the completed HTML5 standard.  This will offer the best functionality and experience possible without having to go back in a few months and change the Adobe Edge code to meet with the fluctuating standard.

When Adobe Edge is finally released sometime in 2012 it will comply with the finalized HTML5 standard.  For now, anyone can download the free Adobe Edge Preview and start playing with the early version of Edge.  I would recommend downloading the early preview and follow along with us as we see Adobe Edge transform into the ‘next big thing’ in web developing software.

On Monday August 1st Adobe announced the release of an early preview version of Adobe Edge for free download. On Tuesday they claim that Adobe Edge was downloaded over 50,000 times during the first 24 hours. Keep in mind that Adobe Edge is not even in Beta version. This is an early preview version in which Adobe hopes web developers will give them feedback to help in shaping the final version of Adobe Edge.

Adobe’s Russell Brady posted on his blog: “In the first 24 hours, it has been downloaded more than 50,000 times – pretty, pretty good for a development tool!” Pretty good indeed.

Adobe Edge is Adobe’s new HTML5 web motion and interaction design tool. We believe it will be the future of animated web development that will replace Adobe Flash. Adobe claims that they will continue to develop both platforms, Adobe Edge and Flash, but we believe that one Edge is complete it will finish off the aging Flash.

For a few years now we have been witnessing the slow death of Adobe Flash, but it is not possible for Flash to completely die until there is a formidable replacement. There still is no software that helps developers easily create animations in HTML5 like Adobe Flash did so with it’s technology. There are a few small companies that have developed some adequate programs like Hype, but there is no one powerful professional quality software out there that would completely bury Flash.

Ironically the program that seems will ultimately push Adobe Flash over the edge is a program made by the same company. The reason Adobe is doing this is because if they don’t, another company will. The days for Adobe Flash are limited and Adobe logically wants to produce the replacement software.

We now live an an age of mobile computing. Most people don’t just browse the web on a desktop computer. Many times people browse the web on mobile devices like a smartphone or a tablet computer. These devices don’t handle displaying Flash very well and iOS devices don’t support Flash at all. Because of this, most web developers are staying away from including Flash to any of their new web sites and are frantically trying to replace Flash in sites with HTML5 equivalents.

Many times removing flash from a site means losing some functionality or animation. Adobe has now announced Adobe Edge software that will hopefully solve many of the problems that web developers are facing as they try to build dynamic web sites without Flash. If Adobe Flash becomes what we hope for it to be it will finish off Adobe Flash for good. Adobe Edge will make sure there is no Flash software in CS6.

We will continue to document the changes made to Adobe Edge as it transforms into the powerful software that will push Flash over the edge! This is the site to learn Adobe Edge online.

Ever since Steve Jobs and Apple gave Flash the mortal blow by not including Adobe Flash in iOS, the operating system that powers the iPhone and iPad, web developers have been waiting for a suitable HTML5 replacement for that technology.  The company that logically is expected to make this much anticipated software program is Adobe.  Adobe produces the best known professional-grade web tools including Dreamweaver.

Today Adobe released the early preview of Adobe Edge, a new HTML5 web tool that allows web designers to bring animation to web pages similar to Adobe Flash.  Adobe Edge promises to be what web developers have been waiting for.

Before you get your hopes up about purchasing Adobe Edge, keep in mind that it is not even in beta version.  Adobe only released an early preview of Adobe Edge.  Adobe is not charging to download the early preview of Adobe Edge.  Web developers are encouraged to explore the program and provide feedback to Adobe to help shape how future versions of Adobe Edge will look like.  Download Adobe Edge early preview HERE.

Paul Gubbay, vice president of Design and Web Engineering said, “Now, with Adobe Edge, we’re taking our HTML5 tooling to a whole new level and look forward to getting some really useful feedback from the community over the next few months, as we refine the product.”

Adobe Edge allows you to add motion or animation to HTML documents.  You can start from scratch or edit a current HTML document.  As Adobe brings new features to Adobe Edge we will be showcasing them here to keep you up to date on their progress.  As Adobe Edge matures, we will begin including  tutorials and video tutorials to help you learn Adobe Edge online.

I’ll leave you with an Adobe Edge preview video by AdobeEdge:
